How do I apply for media accreditation?

Which competitions are covered for media accreditation?

Football DataCo’s media accreditation scheme covers Premier League, EFL, EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and FA Cup matches (up to and including the Quarter-Finals of this competition) in the men’s game. Football DataCo is unable to assist with accreditation for any other Leagues or competitions.

How can I access the i-PBS?

Access to the i-PBS is provided to accredited organisations only.

How do I apply for accreditation for a single match?

I wish to make an agency/freelance application, but do not have a portfolio of published cuttings and payment invoices – can I still apply for media accreditation?

Both published cuttings and payment invoices are required to submit an accreditation application to Football DataCo. Applicants wishing to build their portfolio will need to do so via attendances to matches outside of Football DataCo’s remit.

I represent a radio or TV station – can I apply for media accreditation?

Applications from radio and TV organisations can be directed to Football DataCo via the contact page.

How do I attend club press conferences?

Access to press conferences is managed by the relevant club and sits outside of Football DataCo’s accreditation scheme.

Can I film or record at Premier League and EFL stadiums on a matchday as an accredited organisation?

No filming or recording is permitted in stadia on matchdays with the exception of press conferences at the discretion of the home club. All other filming requests should be directed to the individual club and applicable League where it relates to match days. Please note ground regulations apply at all Premier League and EFL matches which prohibit filming, copies of such ground regulations are available on the applicable League’s website.

Can I film or record outside of a stadium on matchdays?

Permission to film outside of any Premier League or EFL stadium on a matchday is given at the discretion of the club and does not form a part of Football DataCo’s media accreditation scheme.

I am a student; can I apply for accreditation?

Football DataCo is unable to assist with any student requests under its accreditation scheme.

Is a licence required to display the fixture lists of the English and Scottish Leagues?

Fixture lists do not benefit from any protection under UK or EU law and as such no licence is required to reproduce fixture lists. You should enquire with Football DataCo regarding use of any other type of match data from the English or Scottish Leagues.

Can Football DataCo provide permission for the use of League and Club logos or player names?

League and Club logos are registered trademarks and/or may also be protected by copyright. As such, they constitute ‘intellectual property’ and are owned by the League and Clubs respectively. Football DataCo does not have any licensing rights with regard to logos and any commercial use of a logo requires permission from the respective League and Club.

Can matchday photos taken by Football DataCo’s accredited agencies be used in a betting or commercial capacity?

Photographs taken by agencies accredited by Football DataCo can only be used in an editorial context and in accordance with all terms of the applicable licence. Any commercial use of photography requires the permission of the relevant club(s)and/or League(s).

How do I request permission to use match footage?

The Premier League and EFL licenses the rights to broadcast its match footage (including key plays) for each of the matches played as part of their respective competitions to broadcasters in various territories on an exclusive basis.

As such, the Premier League cannot grant permission for third parties to use match footage. Requests for use of limited EFL match footage after the end of the season to which it relates may be considered by the EFL (in its absolute discretion) – please contact rbyrne@efl.com should you wish to make any such request.

Who do I contact regarding the data used to settle betting transactions?

It is customary for Betting Operators to state in their terms and conditions the basis for settling football - customers with queries about data or data definitions should contact the betting operator. If a customer is not satisfied with the response, concerns can be raised with local regulators such as the Gambling Commission or an arbitrator such as IBAS.
